YouTube + whitespace + Nina = bliss! - BLOG - HELEN CROZIER ...

In Hamlet's Blackberry?(one of my all time favorite books)?author William Powers talks about his 'failed jazz experiment' where he tried after dinner one evening to escape into a quiet time exploring fine performers on YouTube. The disappointing thing for Bill was that despite finding some fine material he was constantly reminded with pop-ups, comments and advertisements that he was still firmly in the chaotic digital world and had not been transported to some smoky atmospheric bar or intimate concert hall from last century.

Recently I was happy to discover a browser add-on that turns YouTube into a blank page almost void of anything other than the video and its title. Clea.Nr?is an extension for Safari and Chrome that removes clutter from YouTube and amazon.com.?Using this combined with Ad Block?which is available for all browsers, provides a quality experience that feels more like pure entertainment.?To be transported back to Rome, 1969, here's Nina Simone performing Leonard Cohen's Suzanne?without the extras. Beautiful!

Does using the internet without advertisements feel more enjoyable for you? Do let me know in the comments what you think of clea.Nr.
